Hello Spring! Welcoming the Light of New Beginnings
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we have just celebrated the Spring Equinox; when we say goodbye to the darkness of winter and welcome lighter and warmer days.
In many places around the world, we have also received welcomed news that lockdown restrictions are beginning to lift and we can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.
As cyclical beings, we are affected by the seasons, whether we are aware of it or not. When we consciously work with the seasons and incorporate their teachings into our every-day lives, we are more likely to feel balanced and in harmony with ourselves and the world around us.
Winter encourages us to sleep more, eat more dense and warming foods and enjoy a slower pace of life.
When spring makes its appearance, we are guided to take small steps out of hibernation and experience the blessings that come with a new beginning.
Spring is a time for rebirth, playfulness and increased light and energy, both within and without.
If we have listened to our natural rhythms and enjoyed plenty of rest during winter, then with the appearance of spring we will feel the calling to step out into the world once again, feeling rested and rejuvenated.
Read on for some rituals and practices, that will help you to feel aligned with the energy of spring.
1. Spring Clean Your Home
This is a wonderful time of year to pass on any unwanted and unused items to charity and give your home the gift of a thorough cleaning and spiritual cleansing.
Put time aside to de-clutter and deep clean every room in your home and energetically cleanse the environment with white sage or palo santo.
Give your home a ‘springtime feel’ with these tips below…
- Decorate your home with colourful flowers and plants.
- Add bright, spring-coloured furnishings to main living areas; such as pictures, cushions, candles and fruit displays in the kitchen.
- Bring the outdoors in by opening windows and doors regularly, to allow the fresh air to circulate.
- Diffuse essential oils that work particularly well in Spring, such as: Lemon, Wild Orange, Eucalyptus, Grapefruit, Rose and Peppermint.
- Give your garden some tender loving care, in preparation for warm and sunny days ahead.
2. Set New Intentions
What would you like to invite into your life? Where do you want your focus to be? The energy of Spring teaches us that this is a wonderful time to plant seeds and make the most of the creative, fertile energy that is on offer at this time of year.
Ask yourself what is most important to you and then grab a piece of paper and write down your goals, dreams and intentions. Keep your piece of paper somewhere safe and look at it regularly to increase motivation and focus.
You may also like to regularly light a candle and recite the following ‘intention setting prayer’ to infuse your goals with positive energy.
“Thank you God/Goddess/Angels/Universe for blessing my life with so much love and abundance.
Today, I infuse my dreams and goals with love, light and power, so that they may manifest for the highest good of all.
I am open to receive all the good that life has to offer and remind myself that I am worthy of true happiness, now and for always.
I nurture my goals and dreams with attention, focus and action and trust the guidance of the Universe.
So be it and so it is. Aho/Amen”
3. Try New Things
When was the last time you tried something new? Too often, we allow fear to hold us back from trying new things. Stepping outside of our comfort zone can feel daunting but we should not allow it to hold us back.
When you rise to the challenge and venture into the unknown, you will undoubtedly learn more about yourself from experiencing something new and your confidence and ability to face challenges will grow.
These new experiences do not need to be as big as jumping out of an aeroplane or walking across hot coal; they might include learning a new skill, making new friends, joining a gym, applying for a new job, travelling somewhere new, shaking up your daily routine and so on.
What have you always wanted to try? In what area of your life does fear hold you back the most? Where can you start? The time is now!
4. Detox Your Body
During spring and summer, we receive energy and vitality from the increased sunshine and warmth, which makes this a much easier time to detox our body.
Perhaps this means simply cleaning up what you eat by eliminating junk food and inviting more fruit and vegetables into your diet. For others, it might mean partaking in juice fasts for longer periods of time and using detox herbs and supplements.
It is common to feel sluggish, bloated and ‘heavy’ by the end of winter (especially if winter has been particularly harsh) and so a detox can be a great way to kickstart your metabolism and ‘clean up’ for spring and summer.
If detoxification interests you, then I highly recommend doing some research and finding a detox programme that is suitable for you.
A qualified healthcare practitioner who specialises in detoxification can also be a great help if you feel especially sluggish and in need of support and guidance.
Here are my favourite ‘daily detox’ practices…
Drink warm water with ½ freshly squeezed lemon, first thing each morning and ensure that you drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Eat a superfood smoothie for breakfast. My favourite smoothie recipe consists of oat milk, banana, strawberries and pineapple. I then add a scoop of plant-based protein powder and add my favourite superfoods, which are: Spirulina, pink pataya powder, wild blueberry powder and camu camu powder.
Workout or go for a power walk, at a pace that is fast enough to make you sweat, as this will help to release built up toxins. Saunas are also a wonderful way to eliminate toxins through intense sweating.
Create healthy sleeping patterns by going to bed and waking up around the same time each day. This regulates your body clock and makes it more likely that you will get enough sleep each night, which is important because your body naturally detoxes and repairs itself while you sleep.
5. Play!
Spring embodies a youthful, childlike spirit, which makes this a perfect season for fun. What do you most enjoy? How can you invite more pleasure into your life?
We are naturally more sociable in spring and summer, so make the most of this and plan to get together with your nearest and dearest for some well-deserved fun.
Spend time in nature, play games, plan parties, play sport and put plenty of time aside for your most enjoyable hobbies.
Spring is a beautiful reminder that no matter how dark the winter may be, the light will always return.
With love to you!
